Positive and negative shapes...What ?

As an artist or photographer, when you are looking at your subject matter you need not only figure out what your subject matter is but what the spaces between and outside that space are.

You can have the most interesting object but you can make it more appealing by considering your negative spaces.

In the image below, I was fascinated not only by the limbs of the fallen trees but the spaces that were formed by the intersection of the branches. I set about digitally to bring out these beautiful abstract shapes .  I also liked the leafy like textures around these linear lines. However I did not want them to compete, but just add some interest for your eyes.  I wanted to give you time to leisurely explore this woodland oasis.

The first photo is the shot I took. The second is my artistic impression of the same scene.

How would you have interpreted it ? What aspects of the scene catch your eye ?
