When I was in Slovakia about 10 years ago, we visited this very old, abandoned castle perched atop a hill. It was decrepit and falling apart, but I was fascinated by the outline it made against the sky.
I took a low resolution image of the castle, that I had into illustrator and outlined the shape with the pen tool and added a stroke.
I knew I wanted my composition to be vertical, so I brought the outline into Photoshop and stretched it to emphasize the height.
Using various filters, transformations and watercolour textures that I had made, I played with the composition until I had something that was true to my initial inspiration.
Line, colour, shape and texture and how they interact on the picture plane is something that I am really interested in exploring .
Stay tuned for more of my explorations.
